Day 14 - Hoi An

This morning we had the option of sleeping in or going for a bike ride to Cam Nam Village where the students explored the wood carvings and boat building. The ride also took them through the rice fields and along the river side where they saw a large cemetery. Just before the cemetery Mrs Griffiths did a slow motion stack while attempting to avoid a motorbike. After this incident they carried on and met a man on a bicycle who is the Vietnamese version of Mr Whippy. Chi shouted each of them an ice cream including three locals.

Others took the opportunity to shop through the markets...again. Mrs Curran, Miss Thomson, Tristyn, Krystal and Jess escaped the heat of the markets to enjoy a cold drink and ice cream. Wayne was incredibly patient with Paige and I (Chloe) while we continuously went in and out of nearly every shop. Those who decided to stay back at the hotel and have a sleep in were woken up by housekeeping while others enjoyed a long breakfast or a dip in the pool.

Everyone met in the lobby to head to lunch at 12pm. Chi walked us to our restaurant where we had the best inside out wontons ever! After everyone indulged in five courses we meandered back to the hotel to pack our bags ready to leave Hoi An tomorrow.

At 3:30pm we embarked on our Hare and Hounds scavenger hunt around Hoi An. We were split into 5 teams, one team consisting of the parents and Kev. Each team nominated a captain to collect the task package and 400,000 VND and Chi explained the rules to us all. We had until 6:25pm to complete the tasks. Once the game began some teams chose to strategise whilst others ran off quickly.

The teams were:

Group 1 - Olivia, Bobbie, Lauren, Jess & Paige (C).

Group 2 - Legacy, Tamsin, Bec, Shanice & Ashliegh (C).

Group 3 - Tierni, Hayley, Krystal, Cam & Chloe (C).

Group 4 - Taylor, Connor (C), Josh, Tristyn & Tilara.

Group 5 - Kev, Rhonda (C), Wayne & Toni.

Some of the tasks were either taking photos of things, talking to local people or buying something. This was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone due to the adrenalin rush to see who could get back to the restaurant with the most money, all tasks completed and in the quickest time. The parents were the first team back however they only had 5000 VND left where as other teams had over 100,000 VND left. During the race the teachers wandered around spying on the teams to ensure everyone was following the rules. Mr Croft also took this opportunity to get fitted for his tailor made suit. All the teams made it back within the time limit and Mr Blackmore and Chi judged each team's effort.

Tonight we enjoyed Italian food for dinner which included Pizza, Spaghetti Bolognese and Carbonara. This was followed by deep fried banana and vanilla ice cream for sweets. After dinner Chi announced the results from the scavenger hunt.

The results were:

1st - Group 2 with 1615 points and 200,000 VND remaining.

2nd - Group 3 with 1605 points and 100,000 VND remaining.

3rd - Group 1 with 1595 points and 150,000 VND remaining.

4th - Group 4 with 1410 points and 108,000 VND remaining.

And last but not least, despite being the first team back.... Group 5 finished 5th with 1260 points and only 5000 VND remaining!

The winning team got to keep all the goods that were purchased by each group and also the leftover money!

Well done to Group 2 on your awesome efforts and bartering skills. After all the enjoyment we headed back to the hotel for an early night before flying to Saigon early tomorrow morning.

  1. A great trip. Hoi An is an ancient city that I love most in Vietnam. Have you ever visited Cam Kim Island by bicycle?
